Bonnechere Union Public Library is excited to enter the next stage of re-opening!

Beginning August 5th, BUPL will continue to offer the existing services below as well as re-introduce in-person browsing of our physical collection!

While we are delighted to see more of our friends back in the Library, some restrictions are still in place and can be found below. When we see you, please do your best to give your fellow patrons their space and as with every public space in the area, face coverings are required.

In compliance with the Renfrew County & District Health Unit, all those entering the library will be required to sanitize their hands at the sanitization station and wear a face covering. For more infomation please see the information on the RCDHU website here.


BUPL's operational hours will continue to be the following until further notice:

Tue. 10:30 am - 4:00 pm
Wed. 10:30 am - 6:30 pm
Thu. 10:30 am - 6:30 pm
Fri. 10:30 am - 4:00 pm
Sat. 10:30 am - 3:00 pm

Phone lines are open during our operating hours (please see above).


In-Person browsing
  • Patrons browsing the collection are asked to respect the space of their fellow patrons while browsing the collection.
  • The material on the shelves are available to the public. As such we ask all patrons to ensure they have sanitized their hands prior to browsing the stacks.
Book the Makerspace
  • Call 613-628-2400 during our open hours. We are offering one-hour time slots during our open hours.
  • Drop-ins will be accepted however use of the space is not guaranteed.
Public computer use
  • Patrons are encouraged to book an appointment to access a public computer as there are limited stations available.
  • Sessions are limited to 30-minutes per patron.
Print, Scan, Fax
  • Patrons are encouraged to book an appointment if a computer is required for printing. The document can also be e-mailed to
  • Patrons requiring a scan, fax or copy are asked to bring their documents with them.
  • Programming efforts will prioritize an online delivery for the time being. See our online event calendar for full scheduling.
  • Chronicles of Yarnia knitting club resumes in-house Thursday October 8th, after hours, from 6-8PM. Library will not be open to the general public. Club will take place on rotating Thursdays until further notice.
Phone services
  • Phone lines are open during operation hours. Staff are available to assist in placing holds, perform Readers Advisory and answer any questions.
Public wi-fi
  • No wi-fi password is currently needed. Our public network is open for sharing.


In-person programming
  • Programming efforts will prioritize an online delivery for the time being.
  • The library is not accepting donations until further notice.


Request a hold
  • Place your holds via our catalog (use your library card number and last 4 digits of your phone number), or by phone 613.628.2400. Not sure what you want? Call us during our open hours for Readers Advisory.
Arrive at the library to pick up your holds
  • Once you have requested your books, arrive at the library during open hours.
  • Please return any currently borrowed materials by placing them in the dropbox.
  • Please observe any posted signage regarding social distancing and material handling.
Returning checked out items
  • Please place any returned materials into the blue dropbox at the front door prior to entering the building. You can also deposit items inside under the circulation desk in the appointed slot.

Beginning July 3rd, fines from late fees will begin to accrue once again and the standard borrowing periods will resume.
Borrowing periods
DVD: 1 week
Printed material: 3 weeks
Museum passes: 3 days
Rec materials: 3 days
Overdue fines
DVD: $1/day per DVD
Printed material: $0.25/day per printed material
Museum passes: $0.50/day


Maximum Occupancy
  • A maximum of twenty-five public persons will be allowed in the library at one time. Note: a child is one public person. Patrons exceeding this number are asked to remain outside, observing all signage until waved into the building.
Sanitization and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • All those entering the library must sanitize their hands and wear a face covering.
  • Note: All PPE can be provided to patrons by the library.
Material Returns
  • Patrons are asked to deposit any materials they are returning in the blue Dropbox (next to the front door) before entering the building. You can also deposit items inside under the circulation desk in the appointed slot.
Quarantine & Cleaning
  • Materials handled for extended periods and not just for light browsing must be placed into quarantine.
  • Materials returned from patrons are to be placed into quarantine.
  • High touch surfaces are cleaned regularly throughout the day and the library is deep cleaned throughout the week.
